The Phylum Platyhelmenthes, the free-living flatworms, contains several Orders of freshwater animals. Classically, two Classes were considered (Pennak, 1953), Turbellaria (the Planarians) and the Phylum Nemertea (the Proboscus worms) and Ohio EPA still uses these without taking the organisms to lower taxonomy.
